Service Description

Gain a deeper understanding of your adolescent's personality and psychological characteristics with ENDEAVOR's Psychological Assessment. This is a multifaceted objective assessment for adolescents ages 13+ identifies potential psychological challenges that might be negatively impacting their life and relationships. Our comprehensive psychological assessment provides insights into their behaviors, emotions, and interpersonal relationships. With this valuable information, we can tailor our counseling approach to best meet their individual needs. The psychological assessment is analogous to a comprehensive physical conducted by a doctor. The psychological assessment is a “mental health physical” that explores behavioral and psychological characteristics that are distinctive to an individual and checks for the presence of any underlying psychological conditions that may be compromising your adolescent’s well-being. ENDEAVOR uses only assessment instruments that have been demonstrated to be reliable and valid by extensive empirical research. What can I expect from this process? The assessment would include three sessions: 1) a clinical interview session (1-1.5 hours), 2) assessment session (4 hours), and 3) a session to review the results (1 hour). During the interview, I would ask you and your adolescent to describe any relevant mental or physical symptoms as well as relevant aspects of present life (e.g., key stressors, relationships, and/or job responsibilities). I would also invite conversation concerning any relevant past experiences or patterns of behavior. The adolescent would then complete the assessments, a process which would take between three and four hours. Finally, we would schedule a one-hour follow-up session which would take place a week or two after the first session. During this subsequent session, the results of the assessments and any clinical recommendations would be discussed. Will my adolescent receive a diagnosis after the assessments? Perhaps. Diagnosis of mental health conditions depends on many factors. Some people experience transitory mental health distress related to recent stress, grief, anxiety, substance use, or depression; such cases may not warrant a diagnosis. Others experience chronic mental health symptoms or conditions that may call for a diagnosis. The clinical interview and assessment results would help determine whether any diagnosis is warranted, and, if so, the nature of the diagnosis.
