Service Description

CONTACT TO SCHEDULE The adult ADHD assessment measures the presence and severity of symptoms related to ADHD. After reading the content below, if you would like to explore whether an ADHD assessment would be beneficial to you, please contact ENDEAVOR via the Contact page to schedule a 15-minute phone consultation. What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)? ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity. Typically, some symptoms appear before age 12 and persist, interfering significantly with social, academic, or occupational functioning. Inattention is manifested by drifting off task, losing focus, or lacking persistence; hyperactivity by fidgeting, tapping, running around unnecessarily, or feeling restless when inactive; and impulsivity by risky behavior, social intrusiveness, decision-making without forethought, or pursuit of immediate rather than deferred gratification. Who experiences ADHD? ADHD occurs in most cultures and affects ~5% of children/adolescents and ~2.6% of adults. It is more common in males than females. What can I expect from this process? Our first session would include two components: 1) a clinical interview lasting about an hour, and 2) completion of the ADHD assessments. During the interview, I would ask you to describe any relevant mental or physical symptoms as well as relevant aspects of your present life, e.g., key stressors, relationships, and/or job responsibilities. I would also ask you to share any relevant past experiences or patterns of behavior. You would then complete the assessments, a process which would take about two hours. Finally, we would schedule a one-hour follow-up session which would take place a week or two after the first session. During this subsequent session, we would review the results of the assessments and discuss clinical recommendations. Will I receive an ADHD diagnosis after the assessments? Perhaps. Diagnosis of ADHD or other mental illness depends on many factors. Some people experience transitory inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity related to recent stress, grief, anxiety, substance use, or depression; such cases may not warrant an ADHD diagnosis. Others experience chronic inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that may call for a diagnosis. The clinical interview and assessment results would help determine whether any diagnosis is warranted, and, if so, the nature of the diagnosis.
